Naas Wild Food Festival is Back !
Naas Wild Food Festival will be making its return to the town from the 4th to the 10th September, and focuses on the rare and wonderful delights that can be found both in our locality and on our lands. We will be serving a selection of dishes specially crafted for the occasion available for a limited time only, celebrating the return of the food festival.
Half Dozen Carlingford Oysters with Seaweed Spaghetti & Champagne vinegar dressing - €12 (or €2.50 each)
Oysters were originally a poor man’s food, whereas now it’s seen as a gourmet delicacy. The native Irish oyster grows naturally on tidal sea beds and they are now in season, the imported gigos variety are available all year round.
Venison Cannelloni, Crispy Leeks, Parmesan Cream & Wild Mushrooms - €20
One of the oldest meat types in this country and probably why this rock on the edge of Europe was first inhabited, male sika & fallow deer are mostly used early in the autumn season
Damson & Gin Cobbler, Mascarpone Ice Cream - €6.50
While damsons are not native, they can be found growing in hedgerows all over the country. They are slightly less sweet than plums and are now in season
September is a great time of year for wild foods in Ireland, with our native oysters now in season, all our beautiful game and our hedgerows are bursting with fruit, not to mention the arrival of all those delicious mushrooms.
Thanks to Naas Tidy Towns you can sample a number of these out of the ordinary and wild ingredients and much more such as escargot, python, mountain oysters, tripe and grasshoppers at a number of feasts around the town.
